What are the basic technology requirements for WorldClassRoom?

WorldClassRoom will run with the minimum system specifications, but it is always recommended to use the most up-to-date computer and browsers.  Canvas supports the two latest versions of any browser; however, it is highly recommended that you have the latest version of the browser installed for the optimal experience. You can always find more on basic computer specifications for WorldClassRoom here.

You must have JavaScript enabled in the browser you are utilizing.

 

 

Plugins
Flash

Flash is required to record and upload audio/video in WorldClassRoom.

 

The versions of Flash which are currently supported are 20 and 21.

Java

The Java plug-in is NOT required for the majority of course activities in WorldClassRoom. However, if you want to share screens in Conferences, you'll still need the Java plug-in.

Computer Specifications
Screen Size WorldClassRoom is best viewed at a minimum of 800x600, which is the average size of a notebook computer. WCR can also be viewed on smaller screens, such as a tablet or a mobile phone.

Computer Speed and Processor
  • Use a computer 5 years old or newer when possible
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 2GHz processor
Internet Speed

WorldClassRoom works well for most* Internet connections. We recommend you access WorldClassRoom through DSL, Broadband, or another high speed internet service. 

  • Minimum of 512kbps 
  • Dial up is not recommended.
Screen Readers The latest versions of JAWS (PC), VoiceOver (Safari), NVDA (PC). 
WebCam/Microphone

A WebCam and Microphone is required to record video and audio in WorldClassRoom.

If you wish to record video or audio but you do not have a built-in WebCam and Mic on your computer, tablet, or cell phone, you may opt to purchase one for recording purposes. (Commercially available WebCams and microphones will work.)
